PetStem Medical Director

Dr. Antje Hinz was born and raised in Germany.  From an early age on, she was passionate about animals, which, along with her scientific curiosity, led her carrier to vet school. She was accepted at the Free University of Berlin and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in the top five percent of her class.

After graduation, she moved to the United States to pursue further training in Equine Medicine and Surgery.  During that time she developed a strong passion for surgery and critical care and subsequently, completed three-year specialty training in surgery becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Dr. Hinz has published in peer reviewed veterinary journals, given numerous presentations and was honored with an award for outstanding clinical research by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

She has practiced small animal medicine and surgery, and worked in numerous hospitals in the Los Angeles area, varying from low cost rescues and shelters to state-of-the-art hospitals.

Treating dogs for various orthopedic disorders allowed her to develop a strong interest in regenerative medicine over the years. She was involved in clinical research exploring PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy in canine osteoarthritis and, subsequently joined PetStem as our Medical Director in 2014.

Dr. Hinz is fluent in English, German, French and holds a degree in ancient Latin, practices yoga and can be spotted in the canyons of Los Angeles hiking with her rescued dog Lucy.
